Tutoring Program
Tutoring for grades 1 and
2 (all levels) takes place on Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:30 -4:14pm,
and for
CYO offers tutoring in all areas of the Language Arts, including vocabulary, spelling, grammar, reading (oral reading and silent reading using current and classic literature, pronunciation, enunciation), writing(printing ,cursive handwriting, writing sentences, paragraphs, essays, poems), phonetics, linguistics, reading for comprehension, accurately answering questions taken from literature, fine and gross motor skills, listening skills and study skills. Our Language Arts curriculum also includes: learning the proper use of the dictionary, recognizing and understanding parts of texts (title page, copyright, publisher, glossary, appendix etc.), as well as learning how to use a thesaurus and synonym finder. The Language Arts program is quite comprehensive. It thoroughly addresses and expands on all points of the N.J.C.C.C.S.
Students’ daily lesson
plans, guided by the yearly lesson plan, are adjusted weekly, to
ensure compatibility
Students are brought to the tutoring classroom at 3:15pm, so they can sign in and have a healthy snack prior to the beginning of the tutoring session.
Attendance is logged into the tracking system at the close of each class.
All student work is graded and placed in the student’s portfolio. Students are tested regularly, with progress reports written, recorded and sent to parents monthly.
C.Y.O.’s tutoring program runs through the end of May.
C.Y.O.’s Tutoring program has resulted in an average increase in student test scores of 57%.

The coordinator and
teachers are always available to speak with parents and students.
To facilitate this, an open house is held for parents, with
refreshments and student files available for review, providing an
opportunity to open a dialogue.
